I am a postdoctoral researcher at Human Rights Studies and the Department of History, working in a FORTE funded project on developing historical perspectives on the repatriation and integration of the so-called 'IS Children.' The project analyses the similarities and differences in the post-war experiences of Scandinavian children born to German soldiers during WWII, and to IS foreign fighters during the Syrian civil war.
In addition to the study of children born of war, my research interests include family history research, ethnic and gender studies, trans/nationalism as well as the history of childhood. I hold degrees in Cultural Studies as well as Women’s and Gender Studies. My PhD thesis (2018) at the University of Copenhagen looked into the cultural histories of Syrian American women’s self-representation in the early 1900s and my previous postdoctoral work has explored the role of family secrecy in Denmark during WWII.
