Applying for studies

All students wishing to study the international MA programme in Human Rights Studies must apply online, using the national application database universityadmissions.se  The application period runs from mid-October to mid-January.

Entry requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Rights Studies or other relevant subject within the field of humanities, social sciences, law, or the equivalent.  Please note that applicants with a degree in another subject than Human Rights Studies need to show sufficient knowledge in our field through specialization, courses, or thesis;
  • English Level 6 (equivalent to IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90);
  • one statement of purpose (500 words). In the statement the applicant describes qualifications in human rights studies, academic and professional ambitions and state why these makes the student adequate for the programme, guide statement (pdf);
  • two letters of recommendation in English. The letters should be from persons who are familiar with and capable of assessing the applicant’s academic abilities.

Selection criteria/additional information

The main criterion of selection is the applicants’ estimated capacity to complete the programme. Students who satisfy the entry requirements are selected on the basis of the applicant’s proficiency in English, orally and in writing; previous study results from courses that are of relevance for this programme; the statement of purpose; and two letters of recommendation.

Tuition fees, resident permit, money and living costs

There are no tuition fees for EU/EEA citizens. For non-EU/EEA citizens, the tuition fee for this programme is SEK 125 000 per year.

If you pay the first instalment and won´t be able to attend, there will be a non-refundable part of the tuition fee of SEK 7 000 (there are a few exceptions). Please read more on Lund University’s Tuition fee refund policy (link).
